Grandpa’s Place
We named our little restaurant “Grandpa’s Place” not only to honor all our Grandpas, but also because the basic decor (especially the back bar which dates back to 1891) suggest the era of their times. Futhermore, we like to think that “Grandpa” suggests warmth, character, friendliness, and old-fashioned quality.

Parking in Glenview is free. There is a parking lot located directly west of the theater and across the street, as well as ample street parking.
How long does the show run?
The run time or length of an individual performance is shown on each production page. The length of a production (how many weeks) is listed on each production page as well as our Calendar.
Where should I eat?
We have five restaurants that we like to recommend. The Glenview House, Gusto Italiano, and Grandpa’s Place are all within walking distance of the theater and from the train station. North Branch and Valley Lodge Tavern are both approximately 10 minutes away by car. For more detailed information, visit our “Where to Eat” page.
Is Oil Lamp fully accessible?
We have fully accessible parking spots located in the parking lot immediately West of the theater, and there are no steps getting into the theater. Make sure to ask for handicap seating, if needed, as our seating is mainly placed on risers. For more information, visit our Accessibility page.
What are your camera and cell phone policies?
We do not allow any photos or videos to be taken during the performance. The space is very intimate, and for that reason, we also ask that all cell phones be turned off-- even vibrations can be heard in our space, and no texting during the performance.
What age is appropriate for Oil Lamp Theater attendance?
While the recommended age may vary from play to play, depending on the content, we generally ask that no child younger than middle school age attend the performances. Most of our show selections are intended for a mature audience (except our Holiday shows). The recommended age is listed on each production page, along with any warnings about content.
What happens if I arrive at the theater after the performance has begun?
Due to the intimate nature of our performance and to ensure the safety of our cast members and patrons, those who arrive after the performance has begun may not be able to be seated immediately in the auditorium. We will make every effort to seat late arrivals in the lobby until seating them is safe and discreet during a break in the action.
What if I miss my scheduled performance?
We ask that if you know you are going to miss the performance to call the Box Office at (847) 834-0738 ahead of time. At that time, we can move your tickets to another day. Any cancellation that is not given 24 hrs ahead of time may not be able to receive a refund. If you miss your performance, you can call the Box Office and see if there is available seating for another day. You can also donate back to the Theater any prepaid tickets.
I misplaced something while at the Theater. Do you have a lost and found?
We keep track of lost items at our front desk or in our office. Call the theater at (847) 834-0738 to see if the lost item had been found. We can then arrange for you to pick up your item during Box Office Hours (Tuesday-Fridays from 12-5pm). We apologize, but we are not responsible for items lost at our performance venue.
I am not able to attend a production for which I have already bought tickets, what do I do?
You may transfer your tickets to someone else, such as a friend or family member who would come in your place. You could either give them your confirmation email or they can get the tickets under your name from Will-Call. You can also call the theater and try to reschedule. With enough advanced notice, you can be eligible for a refund. If you purchased your tickets through Brown Paper Tickets (via our website) or Goldstar, you can call their Customer Service lines directly to receive your refund.
